Every time that you open a Microsoft Office 2010 application, such as Outlook 2010, you receive the following message:

Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following methods in the order in which they appear in:

Method 1:
If you have an earlier version of Office installed, such as Office 2003 or Office 2007, follow these steps:

To have us perform method 1 for you, go to the "Here's an easy fix" section. If you prefer to perform method 1 yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

Here's an easy fix

To fix this problem automatically, click the Download button. In the File Download dialog box, click Run or Open, and then follow the steps in the easy fix wizard.

  • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

  • If you’re not on the computer that has the problem, save the easy fix solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Let me fix it myself

  1. In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then select Run.

  2. In Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run.

  3. Type the following command, and then press Enter:

    reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
  4. Verify that the problem is resolved.

If the problem continues to occur, go to the next method.

Method 2:

To have us perform method 2 for you, go to the "Here's an easy fix" section. If you prefer to perform method 2 yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.

  2. In Windows XP, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose

In Windows Vista, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose

You receive a "Task is completed" message and a warning message that something could not be done. You can safely ignore this message. For more information about this message, see the %windir%\Security\Logs\Scesrv.log file.

Note In Windows Vista, the Defltbase.inf file is a Security configuration template for the default security. You can view the settings for this file in the following location: %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf

  3. Verify that the problem is resolved.

Note After you complete these manual steps, standard user accounts may no longer appear on the log on screen when you start your computer or try to switch users. This occurs because standard user accounts are removed from the Users group when you reset Windows security settings. To add the affected users accounts back to the Users group, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then All Programs. Or click Programs.

  2. Click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt (Windows XP). Or right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run As Administrator (Windows Vista).

  3. In the Command Prompt window, type net users and then press ENTER. A list of user accounts is displayed.

  4. For each accountname listed in the Command Prompt that is missing from the log on or switch user screen, type the following command and then press ENTER:

    net localgroup users accountname /add

  5. Check if this problem is fixed.

If the problem continues to occur, go to the next method.

Method 3:
Start Office 2010 in safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then select Microsoft Office.

  2. Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the Office program that you want to start.

If the problem does not occur in safe mode, this issue might be related to third-party add-ins. Disable the add-ins and start Office 2010 to see whether the problem continues to occur. To disable the add-ins, follow these steps:

  1. Start an Office 2010 application such as Word 2010.

  2. On the File menu, click Options, and then select Add-ins.

  3. Click Go next to the Manage field that displays "Com-in Add."

  4. Check whether there are any add-ins, and then clear the check box to disable them.

  5. Close the Office program and restart it.

  6. If the problem does not occur after un-checking the add-ins, repeat the procedure and select one add-in at a time. Restart Office, and continue to add check marks until the issue reappears again. The last add-in that was rechecked should be disabled.

If the problem continues to occur in safe mode, we recommend that you uninstall Office 2010 and then install it.
