Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You set the RegisterAllProvidersIP property of a Client Access Point (CAP) in a Windows Server 2008 R2-based or Windows Server 2008-based failover cluster to 1.

  • A dependent IP address for the CAP does not list the current cluster node as a possible owner.

  • The IP address has never been registered on the cluster node.

In this scenario, the CAP does not come online in this cluster node.

Cause

This issue occurs because the RegisterAllProvidersIP property tries to register every IP address inDomain Name System (DNS) and in NetBIOS when the RegisterAllProvidersIP property is set to 1. However, if an IP address has never been registered for a cluster node, the IP address does not have a registry key that contains the transport name. If the registry does not exist, the CAP cannot come online.
