Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or Microsoft SQL Server 2012 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012 fix release.

Symptoms

When you try to view a report in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services (SSRS 2012), in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008 R2) or in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008), you may receive the following error message:

library!ReportServer_0-230!1bf8! Date Time:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InternalCatalogException: Different query parameters resulted in a same hash. This is not supported. Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InternalCatalogException: An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details.

Cause

This issue occurs because the different sets of parameters can generate the same hash value in some rare cases.

When the report viewer requests a generating report, the SSRS service tries to look up a snapshot of the report in the ReportServerTempDB database by using hash that is generated by the parameters. Then, the service compares the parameters from the request with the stored parameters. If the parameters are the same, the SSRS server will throw the internal catalog exception that is listed in the "Symptoms" section.
