Symptoms
When you try to connect to a network printer on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
0x00000022 ERROR_WRONG_DISK
Cause
This issue is caused by a race condition that occurs when an application tries to delete the RPC proxy and another application tries to add a printer connection at the same time. When an application creates a network printer connection, the application calls the GetPrinter function to obtain information about the printer from the print server. Then, the application calls the GetProxyObject function in the network print provider. If the RPC proxy does not exist, the network print provider returns the error message that is mentioned in "Symptoms" section.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
