Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 in an Active Directory domain.

  • You disable Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption for Kerberos authentication on the domain environment.

  • A domain user tries to log on to the domain work station.

In this scenario, the logon attempt fails.

Notes

  • This issue is resolved temporarily when you restart the client computer.

  • In some cases, a domain user cannot unlock a locked session or cannot log on to the locked session. Additionally, the user receives an error message that resembles the following:

The user name or password is incorrect.
