Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You sign in to a Microsoft Lync 2010 client on a computer that is connected to an Aries telephone.

  • The telephone is running Lync Phone Edition, and is paired with the Lync 2010 client.

  • A USB headset is connected to the computer, and you set device preference to the USB headset.

  • You accept an incoming Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) call in the client as a delegate, and then you try to answer the call by using the USB headset.

In this scenario, the call is routed to the Aries telephone in speaker mode.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Lync 2010 client incorrectly treats the telephone as a preferred device.
