Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You create a business rule that tests for a blank value on a numeric attribute in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Master Data Services (MDS).

You save and publish the business rule.

You open the entity in MDS Explorer, and run the business rule to validate the entity members.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
8114: Error converting data type nvarchar to numeric. Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates a mismatching number of BEGIN and COMMIT statements. Previous count = 0, current count = 1.
Note This issue also occurs in SQL Server 2014 MDS that has applied CU3 or later versions. For example, when you execute a business rule in MDS that checks whether a date attribute is empty, you receive the following error message:

Resolution
The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.
