Delete a user profile in Windows

This article introduces how to delete a user's profile on a Windows-based device.

Note

To perform these methods, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer or have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure.

Using Control Panel

  1. Select Start, search for Control Panel, and select Control Panel in the result.

  2. Select Large icons in View by:, and then select System.

    Note

    In Windows Server 2022, Windows 10, and Windows 11, the Settings App opens.
    In Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2019, the classic System applet opens.

  3. Select the Advanced System settings link.

  4. In the dialog that opens, select Settings in the User Profiles section.

  5. In the next dialog, there is a list of profiles on the system. Select the profile that you want to remove and select Delete.
