Summary

This article describes how to add a video to a Web page in FrontPage 2003. This article discusses how to insert supported video files (file formats that are listed in the Files of type list in the
Video dialog box), and how to insert unsupported video files (file formats that are not listed in the Files of type list in the Video dialog box).

The file types that are listed in the Files of type list in the Video dialog box when you select a video file to insert are listed as follows:

  • All Video Files (*.avi; *.asf; *.ram; *.ra)

  • Windows Video Files (*.avi)

  • Windows Media Files (*.asf)

  • Real Audio Files (*.ram; *.ra)

To insert a supported video file format

Follow these steps to insert a video file that is listed in
Files of type list:

  1. Start FrontPage 2003, and then open the Web page where you want to add the video.

  2. On the View menu, click
    Page (if it is not already selected), and then at the bottom of the page, click Design.

  3. Position the insertion point where you want to insert the video.

  4. On the Insert menu, point to
    Picture, and then click Video.

  5. In the Video dialog box, locate and click the video file that you want to insert, and then click
    Open.

  6. To preview the Web page that contains the video that you inserted, follow these steps:

    1. On the File menu, point to
      Preview in Browser, and then click the Web browser that you want to use to preview your Web page.

    2. Click Yes when you are prompted to save your changes.

    3. If a Save Embedded Files dialog box appears on your screen, specify the options that you want, and then click
      OK.

To set playback options for a video

Follow these steps to set playback options for a video:

  1. Start FrontPage 2003, and then open the Web page that contains the video that you inserted.

  2. On the View menu, click
    Page (if it is not already selected), and then at the bottom of the page, click Design.

  3. Right-click the video, and then click Picture Properties.

  4. Click the Video tab.

  5. Under Repeat, specify the loop options that you want.

  6. Under Start, specify the start option that you want.

  7. Click OK.

To insert an unsupported video file format

Follow these steps to insert a video file that is not listed in
Files of type list:

  1. Start FrontPage 2003, and then open the Web page where you want to add the video.

  2. On the View menu, click
    Page (if it is not already selected), and then at the bottom of the page, click Design.

  3. On the Insert menu, click Web Component.

  4. In the Component type list, click
    Advanced Controls.

  5. In the Choose a control list, double-click Plug-In.

  6. In the Data source box, either type the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the file that you want the plug-in to load, or click Browse to locate the file.

  7. In the Message for browsers without plug-in support box, specify the message that you want to display to Web browsers that do not support plug-ins.

  8. Under Size, specify the height and the width (in pixels) of the plug-in in the Height and
    Width boxes.

  9. If you want to hide the plug-in when the page is viewed in a Web browser, click to select the Hide plug-in check box.

  10. Under Layout, configure the alignment, border thickness, and horizontal and vertical spacing values that you want for the plug-in.

  11. If you want to specify cascading style sheet properties as an inline style for the plug-in, click Style, and then specify the style settings that you want.

  12. Click OK.
