You cannot install Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Symptoms

You cannot upgrade from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2008 R2 after you install products in the "applies to" section on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.

Cause

The original release and Service Pack 1 (SP1) release of products in the "applies to" section are not supported on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods

New Installations

  • Option 1: Create a slipstream that contains Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Service Pack 2 or later versions. Use that slipstream to install the product that generated the error. For more information about how to create a slipstream, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Upgrade

  • Option 1: Upgrade to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Service Pack 2. Then, install Windows Server 2008 R2. For more information about how to deploy software updates for the products in the "applies to" section, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

  • Option 2: Uninstall the product in the "applies to" section. Then, install Windows Server 2008 R2. Finally, install the product by using Option 1 for New Installations listed above.
