Summary

This article describes the Microsoft Office Excel 2007 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated February 23, 2010.

INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • You have a Office Excel 2007 file in a Microsoft Office SharePoint document library. This document library tracks major versions and requires check-out for documents in the library. When you try to save the file, Office Excel 2007 closes without saving changes. This problem occurs when the document is checked out by another user.

  • You have a computer that has 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 2 installed. Then, you programmatically copy a cell range that contains charts that are in the invisible area in an Office Excel 2007 worksheet. When you use the Paste Special command to paste the cell range, the pasted cell range contains no chart.

  • In Office Excel 2007, you open a Microsoft Office Excel Workbook that was created in Microsoft Office Excel 2003 or earlier versions. In this case, the Name Conflict dialog box prompts you to provide an alternative name to open the file. Additionally, you cannot skip or cancel this dialog box.

  • You have grouped or filtered cells that contain a chart or a SmartArt object in Office Excel 2007. When you delete the first row that is under the grouped or filtered cells, the chart or the SmartArt object is deleted.

  • You use a Web browser control that is embedded in an Office Excel 2007 worksheet to access a Web site in Internet Explorer 8. When you click a link on the Web site, the Print dialog box appears.

  • You use a Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer to print certain Office Excel 2007 workbooks that contain list box controls. In this case, Office Excel 2007 crashes.

  • You use the Unprotect method to unprotect an inactive worksheet in Office Excel 2007. In this case, the controls in the inactive sheet are displayed in other worksheets. This problem occurs after you apply one of following updates:

    • 970941 Description of the Excel 2007 hotfix package (Excel.msp, Oart.msp): June 30, 2009

    • 971787 Description of the 2007 Office system hotfix package (Excel.msp, Xlconv.msp): June 30, 2009

    • 973593 MS09-067: Description of the security update for Excel 2007: November 10, 2009

  • You save an Office Excel 2007 file in the Excel 97- Excel 2003 Binary file format (BIFF8). In this case, Office Excel 2007 crashes. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

    • The last formula on the global calculation chain is the only formula on the worksheet.

    • You have at least one formula on another worksheet.

  • 979370 A runtime error occurs and then Office Excel 2007 crashes when you programmatically print or print preview a file in Microsoft Office Excel 2007

Workaround

  • To avoid this problem when you create a workbook that must be shared, turn on the shared workbook option before you save the workbook to a network share.

  • If the problem has already occurred, follow these steps:

    1. Open the shared workbook, and then save it to a local drive.

    2. Turn on the shared workbook option.

    3. Save the workbook on the network share.
