Symptoms

You have a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. When you run Microsoft Component Services (COM+) applications on this computer, the COM+ applications stop responding (hang) intermittently.

When this issue occurs, the computer stops responding. Additionally, you may find that the applications create many Dllhost.exe processes.

Note You can restart the computer to recover from this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because of an error in the COM+ Event System (es.dll file). The COM+ Event System does not handle exceptions correctly in certain situations. This causes the SvcHost.exe process that is associated with the COM+ Event System to stop responding (hang).

Resolution
