You are not able to view your Oracle schema in SSMA metadata explorer

Symptoms

When you connect to an Oracle instance from SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) using the standard mode, you may notice that the connection is successful but you do not see the schema that you are looking for under the Oracle Metadata Explorer. You are still able to see other schemas in the metadata explorer.

Cause

The Loading System Objects page of the Project Settings dialog box lets user specify which Oracle objects, SSMA converts and loads into SQL Server. If you do not select the required schema from the list before connecting to the Oracle from SSMA, then you experience the problem discussed in Symptoms section.

Resolution

When trying to connect to a schema, that is listed as a system object in the Loading System Objects page of the Project Settings dialog box, please verify that the appropriate schema is checked before you connect to Oracle from SSMA.

The Loading System Objects pane is available at both the following locations:
  • Project Settings
  • Default Project Settings

To specify settings for all SSMA projects, in the SSMA tool go to the Tools menu, select Default Project Settings, click General at the bottom of the left pane, and then click Loading System Objects and then check the schema that you want to use as default.

To specify settings for the current project, go to the Tools menu, select Project Settings, click General at the bottom of the left pane, and then click Loading System Objects and check the schema that you want to connect to.

For example if you want to connect to HR database on your Oracle server, navigate to Tools -> Project Settings ->Loading System Objects and select HR. Please see the screenshot below for further information:
