USB Storage Device Is Not Recognized After the Computer Resumes from Hibernation


On a computer with a Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 controller, certain USB 1.1 devices may be disabled after the computer resumes from hibernation. In Device Manager, these devices will appear to have a problem, with the following problem description:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31).

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
