Symptoms

When you download a file that has a very long file name (150 characters or more) from a website, and then you select Open on the notification bar, nothing happens. The file is not opened as expected.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to Microsoft Update. Additionally, see the technical information about the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

Note This update was first included in the MS15-112: Security update for Internet Explorer: November 10, 2015 (3100773).
