This update provides the Junk Email Filter in Microsoft Outlook 2010 with a more current definition of those characteristics that define certain email messages as junk email. This update has a prerequisite and was released on September 8, 2015.

To determine whether the update is installed on the computer, follow these steps, as appropriate for the operating system that you are running.

Windows 10

  1. Go to Start, enter View Installed Updates in the Search Windowsbox, and then press Enter.

  2. Examine the list for Update KB3085525.

Note To uninstall this update, locate and then select update KB3085525, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then select Search.

  2. Enter windows update, select Windows Update, and then select Installed Updates.

  3. Examine the list for Update KB3085525. If the update is in the list, note its Install On date.

Note To uninstall this update, locate and then select update KB3085525, and then select Uninstall.


Windows 7

  1. Go to Start , enter appwiz.cpl in the Search programs and files box, and then press Enter.

  2. Select View installed updates.

  3. In the list of updates, locate update KB3085525.

  4. If update KB3085525 is in the list of updates, the update is installed successfully on the computer.

Note To uninstall this update, locate and then select update KB3085525, and then select Uninstall.

Windows Update may return error code 646 or error code 0x80070646. This results from updates not being installed successfully from Microsoft Update or through a manual install by using the /quiet and /passive flags.

You may also encounter the following issues when you try to install this update:

  • The update installation fails.

  • The system keeps reminding you to install this update even though you have already installed it.

  • The desktop does not load.

If you encounter any of these issues, try the following methods:

Method 1: Reset Windows Update components and then try updating your computer

To reset the Windows Update components automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Note This Fix it solution has a Default mode and an Aggressive mode. You should run the Fix it solution in Default mode, and determine whether it fixes your problem with Windows Update before you run it in Aggressive mode.
 


Note This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

Note If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Method 2: Manually download the update from the download link and then install it in clean boot mode

We suggest you to install the updates in clean boot mode to avoid the interruption of non-Microsoft programs. To start clean boot mode, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start, enter msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

  2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, enter the password or select Continue.

  3. On the General tab, select Selective Startup.

  4. Under Selective Startup, clear the Load Startup Items check box.

  5. Select the Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then select Disable All.

  6. Select OK.

  7. When you are prompted, select Restart.

  8. Try to update your computer again.
