On April 30, 2017, some Groove and Xbox Music services are ending. However, you’ll be able to keep using the Groove and Xbox Music apps to play local files such as MP3s and previously purchased content.
What’s changing on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8?
If you use Groove or Xbox Music apps on Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8:
- You won’t be able to buy songs or a Music Pass using the apps for Xbox Music, Groove, or Store
- You won’t be able to stream or download purchased songs using the apps for Xbox Music, Groove, or Store
- You won’t be able to use your Music Pass
You will still be able to buy songs and Groove Music Pass online at the Microsoft Store.
How can I keep playing the music I bought?
You can still listen to music you bought and downloaded as MP3 files. To find your purchased songs, sign in at music.microsoft.com. On a Windows 8 PC, go to Songs > Filter > Purchased and listen or download from there. You will also find them in the Xbox Music or Groove app on versions of Windows 8.1 or later, and on the Groove or Xbox Music apps for Android and iPhone.
What can I do to keep enjoying my Music Pass?
Use your Groove Music Pass to stream music at music.microsoft.com on any PC or using the Xbox Music or Groove app on Windows 8.1 or later.
On Windows Phone, you’ll need to update to Windows Phone 8.1 or later to keep using Groove Music Pass.
What if I cancel my subscription?
If you have a yearly Music Pass and use it on Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8, you’re eligible for a refund for the remainder of your subscription. Requesting a refund will cancel your current subscription.
If you have a monthly subscription, you can unsubscribe at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Sign in with the email address you use to sign in to Groove.
- Go to the Services & subscriptions tab.
- In your subscriptions, select the Cancel button next to Groove Music Pass.
