Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS) on a computer.

  • You create a cube in the SSAS instance that contains a ragged hierarchy.

  • You use a client application to connect to the SSAS instance, and then you set the MDX Unique Name Style property to "2" in the connection string. This property uses the following name path algorithm:

    [dim].[n1].[n2]

  • You write an MDX query to reference the ragged hierarchy members by using the Name Style 2 method.

In this scenario, the query does not return items for the referenced member.

Resolution

Workaround

To work around this issue, use the Name Style 1 method. This method can use the following Key path algorithm to reference the ragged hierarchy members in the MDX query:

[dim].&[k1].&[k2]

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
