Symptoms

If you set the -ms-clear pseudo element to display:none when a document is rendered in a document mode that has a value of less than 10, the Clear button in an HTML input text field isn't disabled.

Resolution

To fix this problem, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to Microsoft Update. Additionally, see the technical information about the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

This update was first included in the MS16-037: Security update for Internet Explorer: April 12, 2016.

Note To enable this fix, you also have to enable the FEATURE_HIDE_INPUT_ACTIONPART FeatureControl registry subkey. For the steps to add the necessary registry entries, see the "More Information" section.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
