Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You use Showplan XML for a forcing plan operation in SQL Server 2016 and 2017.

The remote query tag in the Showplan XML is larger than 8 kilobytes (KB) characters.

You try to parse the forced plan.
In this scenario, access violation may occur in compile code.
Resolution
This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:
