Action

You want to delete the global list in Team Foundation Server 2005 or 2008.

Resolution

The latest Power Tools for TFS2008 provides a way to remove this using the "TFPT detroygl"command:
http://blogs.gotdotnet.com/bharry/archive/2008/04/21/march-08-team-foundation-server-power-tools-released.aspx

After installing the PowerTools, navigate from command line to the folder where TFPT is installed. You can execute using the options below:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
tfpt destroygl - Destroy a global list

Destroy a global list. Once destroyed, the global list cannot
be restored. By default, a global list cannot be destroyed if
it is in use by any active work item type.

Usage: tfpt destroygl /server:tfsservername /globallist:globallistname [/force] [/noprompt]

 /server                Required. TFS server.
/globallist            Required. Name of the global list to destroy.
/force                  If specified, the global list can be destroyed even if it is in use.
/noprompt            If specified, does not ask for confirmation before destroying.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can run this against a TFS 2005 or TFS 2008 global list.
