Systems can be made faster by deactivating unused hardware. This is especially true for systems with several network cards, which are queried at every start-up. If your PC is equipped with a WLAN card (wireless network) as well as with a LAN card (wired network), you can deactivate the one you are not using

Note: You should always confirm eventual safety warnings by the User Account Control (UAC) by clicking Continue.

Deactivating unused hardware

  1. Click the Start button.

  2. On the right hand side, click Control Panel.

  3. Click Network and Internet.

  4. Click Network and Sharing Center.

  5. On the left hand side, click Manage network connections.

  6. In the following dialog box, your network connections are displayed. If you are using a WLAN to connect to the internet, right-click Local Area Connection. If you are connecting to a local network, right-click Wireless Network Connection.

  7. In the context menu, click Disable.

  8. The changes will take effect immediately. The deactivated type of connection will appear light gray.
