Symptoms

In Microsoft FrontPage, you could remove shared borders from an entire site with a menu option. If you create a web in Microsoft FrontPage, you can't remove shared borders from the entire site easily.

Cause

Expression Web displays shared borders for backward compatibility under the following conditions:
  • You are working on a machine with IIS and the FrontPage extensions installed
  • You are working with a remote website that resides on a server with FrontPage extensions

However, shared borders are not part of the Expression Web feature set, and will not be displayed on a local website or a remote site that is not supported by FrontPage extensions.

Resolution

Option 1:

Open the site in FrontPage and turn off shared borders for all pages

Option 2:

  1. On the web server in Windows Explorer open the root of the website (i.e.
    C:\inetpub\wwwroot).

  2. Open the folder _vti_pvt.

  3. Find service.cnf, open it in Notepad, and set vti_borderdefault:SR| none.

  4. Save the page.

  5. Reopen the site in Expression Web.

  6. Try clicking File --> New --> Page. The shared Border should not be applied to the new page.
