Summary

Some raw files will display vertical shot images rotated 90 degrees and appear in a horizontal orientation.

Cause

This issue can occur in the Windows version of Expression Media when the "Use Embedded Preview" option is not checked on the Raw tab under Preferences > Media Rendering on the Edit menu.

This issue occurs due to the way different engines render raw files differently. This problem would present itself if the "Manufacturer" rendering engine was used to import the file originally and then switched to "Windows Imaging Component" without rebuilding the thumbnails.

This issue appears to only affect the following raw file formats: CR2, CRW, NEF, DCR, and DRF.

Resolution

To resolve this issue when changing the rendering engine rebuild the thumbnails by selecting the thumbnails and then selecting Rebuild Item on the Action menu.
