RAPID PUBLISHING

RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM WITHIN THE MICROSOFT SUPPORT ORGANIZATION. THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, OR IS INTENDED SUPPLEMENT OTHER KNOWLEDGE BASE INFORMATION.

Symptom

All new pages created in Expression Web 2 have an embedded byte order marker and are created using UTF-8 encoding.

Cause

The templates for new websites and new pages in Expression Web contain UTF-8 BOM, so any files created using those templates are encoded for UTF-8. This is confirmed to be a problem in Expression Web 2.

Resolution

If you do not want to use UTF-8 encoding, work around this issue as follows:
  1. Create a Blank site.
  2. Click Site --> Site Settings, and set your default page encoding to whatever you desire.
  3. Add pages to your site using a template inside the blank site by checking the "Add to current web site" checkbox in the File new dialog box.
