Action

You are trying to connect to Team Foundation Server from Visual Studio 2008 client on a Vista 64-bit machine.

Result

You get the following error:

TF31003 - User Account does not have permission to connect to Team Foundation Server

Other Windows 32-bit machines do not get this error.

Cause

If your environment requires Team Explorer to not send request for local network resource through a proxy server by using the BypassProxyOnLocal registry key, Vista 64-bit will not read the default documented registry path. The default path looks like the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or HKEY_CURRENT_USER: Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\TeamFoundation\

Resolution

To configure the BypassProxyOnLocal registry key on a Vista 64-bit edition, do the follow:

1. Click Start, click Run, type Regedit, and then click OK.

2. To set the key for the current user:

    a. Locate and then click the folder path below. If you don't see the folder, created them manually:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER: Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\TeamFoundation\

    b. Click Edit, click New, and then click Key.

    c. Type RequestSettings for the name of the key.

    d. Right-click RequestSettings, click New, and then click String value.

    e. Type BypassProxyOnLocal for the name of the string.

    f. Right-click BypassProxyOnLocal, and click Modify. In Value data, type True, and then click OK.

3. To set the key globally (for all users):

    a. Locate and then click the folder path below. If you don't see the folder, created them manually:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: Software\\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\TeamFoundation\.

    b. Perform steps 2b through 2d.

On the File menu, click Exit.
