Excel Add-in Does Not Connect

Symptoms

Errors and messages appear when trying to run the Microsoft Forecaster Wizard within Excel, or cannot see the Microsoft Forecaster menu item within Excel.

Cause

The Microsoft Forecaster Add-in was not installed properly or the OCX files were not registered successfully.

Resolution

Re-Install the Excel Add-In by following these directions:

To Uninstall Excel Add-in:
  1. Launch Excel. On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
  2. Clear the Microsoft Forecaster Excel Add-in check box and click OK.
  3. Close Excel.
  4. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\FRx Software\FRx Forecaster Components and rename the FCExcelAddIn.xla file by adding a .bak extension to the end of the name.
  5. Launch Excel again. A message states that the FCExcelAddIn.xla file could not be found. Click OK.
  6. On the Tools menu, click Add-ins.
  7. Clear the check box pertaining to the Microsoft Forecaster Add-in (Fcexceladdin).
  8. Click Yes to the delete from list prompt and click OK to close the window.
  9. Close Excel.
  10. Go back to the FRX Software Components file located on the c:/ drive.
  11. Rename the FCExcelAddIn.xla file back to its original extension.
  12. Double-click the FCAddIn.ocx file to register the ocx files. If this does not work, you may also register the ocx files by clicking Start, then Run and entering the following command on the command line: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\FRx Software\FRx Forecaster Components\ FCAddIn.ocx"
To Reinstall the Excel Add-in:
  1. Launch Excel. On the Tools menu, click Add-ins.
  2. Click theBrowse button and locate the FCExcelAddin.xla file on the c:\ drive (see Step 4 above for complete path). Click OK.
  3. You will see a new drop-down on the toolbar entitled Microsoft Forecaster.
