Runtime error '429': ActiveX component can't create object

Symptoms

"Runtime error '429': ActiveX component can't create object"; error occurs when launching the FDM Load or FDM Import Wizard.

New Install 6.7 on Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

Cause

The .dll files required to run the FDM 6.0 Import Wizard are not registered or are not present on the machine.

SQL Server dll files required to run the Import Wizard are:

sqldmo.dll
axscphst.dll
dtsffile.dll
dtspkg.dll
dtspump.dll

These files are not installed by default with SQL Server 2005. There are Backward Compatibility Components that you can select during the original install of SQL Server 2005.

Resolution

In order to use SQL Server 2005 with the existing dts packages developed in SQL Server 2000 you will need to apply "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components" and "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components" This is not installed with SQL Server 2005 by default so you will need to go to the Microsoft download site to get them.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d09c1d60-a13c-4479-9b91-9e8b9d835cdc

Once these components are installed you will be able to use the FDM Import Wizard or run the dts package via SQL Server Management Studio.

More Information

All customers will need "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components" however only some will need "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components" depending on if they installed these components during the original install of SQL Server 2005.
