How do I disable User Account Control in Windows Vista?

Problem description

This article helps you disable the User Account Control (UAC) feature in Windows Vista.

To have us disable the UAC feature for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you prefer to disable the UAC feature yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

Fix it for me

To disable the UAC feature automatically, click the
Fix it button or link. Click
Runin the
File Downloaddialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Let me fix it myself

To disable the UAC feature, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Use User Accounts to disable User Account Control

  1. Open User Accounts. To do this, click the Start button , type accounts in the Start Search box, and then click User Accounts in the Programs list.
  2. Click Turn User Account Control on or off. User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  3. Click to clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK.
  4. Restart the computer.

Method 2: Use the System Configuration Utility to disable User Account Control

  1. Open User Accounts. To do this, click the Start button , type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then click msconfig.exe in the Programs list. User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  2. On the Tools tab, click Disable UAC, and then click Launch.
  3. Close the Command Prompt window, and then restart the computer.
