ATP function names are not automatically translated in Excel

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft Excel 2013 or Excel 2010, you open a workbook that was created in Microsoft Office Excel 2003 or in earlier versions.
  • The workbook was created in a different language than the language that is used by Excel 2013 or Excel 2010.
In this scenario, Microsoft Excel Analysis ToolPak (ATP) function names are not translated into the new language.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Analysis ToolPak is an add-in to Excel. When Excel 2013 or Excel 2010 opens an Excel 97-2003 Workbook (.xls) file, Excel 2013 or Excel 2010 can only translate built-in function names in a workbook. Excel 2013 or Excel 2010 cannot translate the Analysis ToolPak function names. This issue only occurs with Excel 97-2003 Workbook (.xls) files. The issue does not occur with Excel Workbook (.xlsx) or Excel Binary Workbook (.xlsb) formats.

Workaround

To work around this issue, open the affected workbook in a same-language version of Excel 2013 or Excel 2010. Then, save the workbook as either an .xlsx or .xlsb workbook. When you open this new workbook in a different language version of Excel 2013 or Excel 2010, the Analysis ToolPak function names are translated.
