AutoComplete tips are not displayed in Word 2007 or in Word 2010

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document or in a Microsoft Word 2010 document, when you type text for which an AutoComplete tip above the typed text is typically displayed, the AutoComplete tip is not displayed.

For example, as you type a month, such as August, you expect that the following AutoComplete tip is displayed above the text:

Cause

This behavior may occur when the horizontal scroll bar is displayed. This behavior may occur because of one of the following:
  • The Zoom setting is set to a value great enough to cause the horizontal scroll bar to be displayed.
  • The document window is set to a size that causes the horizontal scroll bar to be displayed.

Resolution

To resolve this behavior, do one of the following to hide the horizontal scroll bar, as appropriate for your situation:
  • Decrease the Zoom setting.
  • Resize the document window.
