MS15-081: Description of the security update for PowerPoint 2013: August 11, 2015

Summary

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Microsoft Office file. To learn more about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-081.

Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Service Pack 1 for Office 2013 installed on the computer.

Improvements and fixes

  • Increases default settings for video exporting.
  • Users no longer see unnecessary edits pending after they make text changes during coauthoring.
  • The smart guides feature now works for other presentation content, such as charts and tables.

  • This update also contains fixes for the following nonsecurity issues:
    • Buttons such as the Mark Areas to Keep, Mark Areas to Remove, and Delete Mark are not displayed on the BACKGROUND REMOVAL ribbon in Touch mode in PowerPoint 2013.

    • After you record a presentation as a video file in PowerPoint 2013 on either a computer in which the screen resolution exceeds 1920 horizontally or 1080 vertically, you cannot play back the recorded videos.

    • When you record a slide show for a presentation in PowerPoint 2013, record settings do not persist for the next screen recording in the same session.
