Outlook crashes when you view HTML emails on Windows 7


When you view HTML email messages that contain images in Microsoft Outlook on a computer that is running Windows 7, Outlook may crash.

When this problem occurs, a crash signature that resembles the following for event ID 1000 is logged in the Application log:

Faulting application name: Outlook.exe
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll
Version: 6.1.7601.19045
Fault offset: 0x000ced0b or 0x000c3f83


This issue can occur after you install the following security update for Windows 7:

3097877 MS15-115: Description of the security update for Windows: November 10, 2015

To review the Application log, follow these steps: 
  1. In Control Panel, under System and Security, click Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Event Viewer.
  3. In the navigation pane, select Application under Windows Logs.
  4. In the Actions pane, click Filter Current Log.
  5. In the Filter Current Log dialog box, enter 1000 (as shown in the following figure), and then click OK.
