Error message when you try to calculate effective permissions for registry keys in Windows XP: "Windows cannot calculate the effective permissions for ObjectName"

In Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or with Service Pack 2 (SP2), you try to calculate what permissions a user, a group, or a computer has for registry keys. To do this, you use the Effective Permissions tab in the Advanced Security Settings dialog box. However, when you try to calculate the effective permissions, you receive the following error message:
Windows cannot calculate the effective permissions for ObjectName.
Note ObjectName represents a user name, a group name, or a computer name.

You can calculate effective permissions for files and for folders.
