Symptoms

You access some file shares through a domain-based Distributed File System (DFS). When you crawl the file shares in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, you experience poor performance. 

Resolution

For SharePoint Server 2007

  1. Apply the hotfix package 961749.

  2. Enable the hotfix package. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\Search\Global\Gathering Manager

    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

    4. Type IgnoreLocalGroups, and then press ENTER.

    5. Right-click IgnoreLocalGroups, and then click Modify.

    6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

    7. Exit Registry Editor.




Note We also recommend that you apply the Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 hotfix package that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

For SharePoint Server 2010


  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\14.0\Search\Global\Gathering Manager

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

  4. Type IgnoreLocalGroups, and then press ENTER.

  5. Right-click IgnoreLocalGroups, and then click Modify.

  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

  7. Exit Registry Editor.
