Disk resource does not come online in Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based failover cluster

This article describes an issue that occurs when a disk resource name contains unauthorized file system characters in a Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based failover cluster. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite.

Cause
