TrueType fonts are not saved with a PowerPoint presentation

Symptoms

When you save a presentation on one computer, and then open the presentation on a different computer, some of the text in TrueType fonts may not appear correctly, even though you have selected the setting to embed TrueType fonts when the presentation is saved. There are no error or warning messages when you save the presentation.

Cause

This problem can occur when both of the following conditions are true:
  • The TrueType font could not be embedded.
  • The presentation was saved programmatically with a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications macro.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps, as appropriate for the version of PowerPoint that you are running.

Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2003 and earlier versions of PowerPoint

  1. On the computer on which the presentation was created, start PowerPoint and then open the presentation.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As. Give the file a new name, and then click Save.
  3. Review the warning message for saving fonts, and then click
    Cancel.
  4. Perform one of the following procedures:
    • Change the font in PowerPoint to a font that already exists on both computers.
    • Install the font that is referenced in the PowerPoint warning message so that the font exists on both computers.

Note You must have the correct software licenses to install a copyrighted font on a computer. For more information, please contact your font manufacturer.
  5. Save the presentation again.

Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007

  1. On the computer on which the presentation was created, start PowerPoint and then open the presentation.
  2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click PowerPoint Options.
  3. On the Save tab, click to select the Embed fonts in the file check box, click either of the two options, and then click OK.
  4. Save the presentation again.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

More Information

When a TrueType font cannot be embedded during a save operation, you receive the following (or similar) warning message:
Some of your fonts cannot be saved with the presentation.
However, when the presentation is saved programmatically with a Visual Basic for Applications macro, this warning message is not displayed.
