A control bar appears when you play a video clip in a PowerPoint presentation

When you play a video clip in a PowerPoint presentation, a control bar may appear below the video clip object.

This behavior may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • The video is inserted as a media clip object.

  • The control bar setting for the media clip is turned on.

  • The video clip is in the Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) format.

To resolve this behavior, hide the controls when you play a video clip. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start PowerPoint, and then open the presentation that contains the video clip.
  2. Right-click the video clip object, point to Video Clip Object, and then click Edit.
  3. On the Media Player Edit menu, click
  4. Click to clear the Control Bar On Playback check box, and then click OK.

More Information

The behavior that is described in the "Symptoms" section of this article does not occur when you use the Movies and Sounds command on the Insert menu. It also does not occur if the video clip is in a format other than the AVI format, such as MPEG file or QuickTime.
