The Print Spooler service stops responding and Event ID 7031 is logged into Windows 2000 or in Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

The Print Spooler service stops responding on a Windows 2000-based computer or on a Windows Server 2003-based computer. Additionally, the following event is logged into the System event log.Note <PrinterServerName> is the computer name of the printer server.

The Dr. Watson log may show that an access violation occurred in the Spoolsv.exe process.

Cause

In some special conditions, the gdi32.dll module may detect an incorrect DEVMODE buffer size from the printer driver.
