September 2015 update to fix Windows or application freezes after you install security update 3076895

This article describes an issue in which programs or Windows may freeze after you install security update 3076895. Before you apply this update, check the prerequisites and the restart requirement. Symptoms

After you install security update 3076895 (this update is described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-084), you experience the following symptoms for the listed products.

Client UI may not open.
The portal isn't updated with the status of the client.

Note Other software products that are not listed in this table may experience additional side effects.

Resolution

Update 3092627 is a broader GDR release of the fix in update 3090303. If update 3090303 is installed, you already have the fix for this issue on a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer. Therefore, you don't have to install this update 3092627.

To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Or, install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Or, install Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008.

To install this update, you don't have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

The installation process of this update will prompt you to restart the computer.

Update replacement information

This update replaces a previously released update 3090303.

Note Update 3092627 won't replace security update 3076895. The Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel will show both the updates after you install security update 3076895.

More Information

This issue occurs because of a deadlock between two loader locks (bcrypt!g_csLoaderLock and ntdll!LdrpLoaderLock).
