You cannot use the "runas" command to run Internet Explorer in a different user account in Windows Vista and 7

Symptoms

When you try to use the runas command at a command prompt in Windows Vista or Windows 7 to run Microsoft Internet Explorer, you find that Internet Explorer does not start.

Cause

This issue occurs because Internet Explorer 7, 8 and 9 do not support the runas command.

Workaround

To work around this issue, switch to the different user account, and then start Internet Explorer directly.

To switch user accounts in Windows Vista or Widnows 7, click Start, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Switch Users.
