The Kaspersky scan engine does not update on the passive node of a CCR server running Forefront Protection for Exchange

Summary

If Forefront Protection for Exchange with Hotfix Rollup 1 or 2 is installed on a Cluster Continuous Replication server (CCR cluster), the passive node may be unable to update the Kaspersky antivirus engine.

Symptoms

The Kaspersky scan engine update date will not change. You can view engine updates within the Forefront Protection for Exchange administrator under Policy Management\Advanced Options\View Engine Summary.

The following errors will be logged to the Application log on the passive node:

Resolution

Either of the following two options will provide resolution.

  1. Copy the LocalEngineMapping.cab from the "data\engines\Metadata" folder from the active node to the same directory on the passive node passive node.
  2. Fail over to the passive node and manually update either the Microsoft (MSAV) engine or the Kaspersky engine, automatically creating the appropriate LocalEngineMapping.cab file.
