Excessive network traffic after you enable the Background Sync and Transparent Caching Group Policy settings in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Consider the following scenario:
  • You enable the Offline Files feature on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You enable the Background Sync Group Policy setting and the Transparent Caching Group Policy setting on the computer.
  • A background synchronization process runs for the offline files.
In this scenario, excessive network traffic is generated.

This issue occurs because children items are enumerated even though the parent folder is transparently cached during the background synchronization process. Therefore, unnecessary network traffic is generated.
