CSV VSS writer does not report components after a deduplication volume is added to CSV in Windows Server 2012 R2

This article describes an issue that occurs after a deduplication volume is added to Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) in Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this update, check out the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

This issue occurs when the following condition is true:
  • You add a volume to a failover cluster, and enable data deduplication in this volume.
  • You add the volume to CSV, and the CSV Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) writer is not enabled.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, we have released a hotfix for Windows Server 2012 R2.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To apply this hotfix, you must have update 2919355 installed in Windows Server 2012 R2.
