Stop error 0x0000007E in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

On a computer that's running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you may receive the following Stop error message:

0x0000007E ( parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 )
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Notes
  • The parameters in this error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x0000007E" Stop error messages are caused by this problem.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Kernel WMI GUID pointer is null. This causes a double-free vulnerability in the pointer.

Resolution

Hotfix information
