Windows Installer starts repeatedly after you install SQL Server 2012 SP1

Symptoms

After you install SQL Server 2012 SP1 on a computer, the Windows Installer (Msiexec.exe) process is repeatedly started to repair certain assemblies. Additionally, the following events are logged in the Application log:

When this issue occurs, you experience high CPU usage.

Additionally, you may experience one or more of the following issues:
  • Users cannot log in to Windows with their profile.
  • Insufficient resource related errors when starting services and applications.
  • The Windows registry appears to slowly expand.

Cause

This issue occurs because the SQL Server 2012 components reference mismatched assemblies, Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Wizard.v1.dll and Microsoft.DataWarehouse.Interfaces.dll. This behavior causes native image generation to fail repeatedly. Therefore, a repair operation is initiated on the installer package.

Resolution
