Mail-routing problems in Office 365 Dedicated/ITAR

Microsoft Office 365 Dedicated/ITAR users who are synchronized to Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) experience email-routing problems.

This issue occurs if one of the following conditions occurs:
  • The mailbox is configured incorrectly.
  • The domain that's associated with the email address is not externally routable through Domain Name System (DNS). Or, the domain is included in an outbound connector in Microsoft Exchange Online Protection (EOP).

The TargetAddress attribute is synchronized from the customer Active Directory service to the object in the Azure AD. This attribute is used by EOP to route mail. If the TargetAddress attribute differs from the customer domain, mail is routed to the target address.

Review the configuration of the TargetAddress attribute in the source Active Directory service, the managed Active Directory service, and Azure AD to make sure that each is configured to route mail correctly.
