RPC Error 0x80080005 Is Returned from a COM Program


You may receive the following Remote Procedure Call (RPC) error message:
0x80080005, Server Execution Failed.


This problem may be caused by a race condition in the RPC runtime code.

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.

This problem was identified while investigating failures in a complex COM environment. It may be difficult to isolate the problem, but using Pageheap shows a failure in the NdrpPointerUnmarshall function.
