MSBBN: Setup Stops Responding While Identifying the Base Station

After Setup successfully detects the base station, you receive the following message:
Identifying the base station.
Setup stops responding.

This issue may occur if an Internet Protocol (IP) address is not valid.
Note: This has been known to occur particularly with SBC Yahoo DSL (PPPoE) connections.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

  1. Use Task Manager to quit Setup.
    1. To start Windows Task Manager, Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
    2. Click the Applications tab.
    3. Click Microsoft Broadband Setup, and then click End Task. If you are prompted with the question whether you are sure you want to quit setup, click Yes.
    4. Quit Windows Task Manager.
  2. Turn off the base station to reset it. Wait several minutes, and then turn the base station back on.
  3. Restart the computer.
  4. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Microsoft Broadband Network Utility. The MS Broadband Network Utility now report the correct IP address for the computer of 192.168.2.x.4)
  5. Start the Base Station Management Tool.
  6. In the left pane of the Base Station Management tool, click Wide
    Area Network

  7. Under Internet Connection Type, click the appropriate connection
type for your WAN type ("Dynamic", "Static", or "PPPoE"). Depending on
the connection type, you may have to type additional configuration
information such as IP address, user name, and password.
    Note: To obtain
this information, contact your Internet service provider (ISP) or see
the documentation provided by your ISP.

  8. Click Apply to save the changes.
  9. Click the Home link in the Base Station Management Tool, click Disconnect, and then click Reconnect.
This results in a Connected status on the connection.
  10. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer to verify that the Internet is connected.
