Symptoms

Assume that you access a mailbox by using the Outlook Web App (OWA) in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment. Then you perform one of the following actions:

  • You create a meeting request that contains single-byte Kana characters and then send the meeting request.

  • You post a reply to a posted item that contains single-byte Kana characters in a public folder.

In this situation, Japanese double-byte character set (DBCS) characters in the meeting request or in the new posted item become corrupted.

Note If you check the value of the PR_INTERNET_CPID MAPI property of the corrupted item, the value is stamped as 50222.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Exchange server does not use the value of the PreferredInternetCodePageForShiftJis parameter to create a new object when the server processes a new meeting request or posted item.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2746164 Description of Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

More Information

This issue persists after you apply Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and configure the PreferredInternetCodePageForShiftJis parameter that is described in KB 2642153. For more information about KB 2642153, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
